Over the last two weeks it was really great to start, continue, and finish projects at my home. The before photos sort of scare me at this point but they weren’t so scary when I bought the place. Why is that? I think that when I bought the place, I realized that…

The location of my house is top-notch for my needs. It also has a lot of great natural light, amazing storage, and is plenty big. I really had to look past the dirt, the dark walls, and the mess, to see its potential. There is still work to be done but seeing the progress photos keeps me motivated to keep going. Yesterday I showed you the current state of the powder room and today I’m giving you a little tour of the living room.
Here is what the living room looks like now:
I haven’t fluffed the pillows or perfectly styled anything in these photos but they give you an idea of the transformation that this room has gone through.
The wall between the living room and dining room came down and the whole space got painted in Chantilly Lace. I still adore my MGBW sofa (remember my search?) and the gorgeous pillows that my mom made for me (talented, yes!). I unpacked some more boxes, brought up my vintage typewriter, and created a bit of a vignette with my vintage Alessi, old keys from around Europe, and Barbara Barry orb. The white-on-white art was created by my three nephews and I’ll soon be putting additional art on other walls.
Tomorrow I’ll share photos of my kitchen. If you want to read more about my reno, be sure to have a look at the posts in the Uptown series.
I just love how light and fresh this room looks….makes me so excited for the time when we get to do this!
You’ve been building up a storm! It’s so exciting to see transformations, isn’t it? You must be so proud of all the work you’ve accomplished. I love renos because they make my hands (and my whole body, frankly) really work.
That couch is insane. LOVE it. Room looks amazing!!
Thanks Janice! The couch is BE-U-TI-FUL! It looks great and it’s also uber comfy. It’s nice and deep (which I like). I had great service at ELTE (first visit, first experience) and the workmanship from MGBW is pretty impressive. The details (legs, stitching) are lovely. Two thumbs up for both companies.
Wow Jordana, your living room is looking fab! Love the hints of vintage throughout, especially the coffee table! Is that a fiddleleaf fig tree in the corner? Where did you find one so big? I have a medium size one from Ikea that wasn’t looking so hot when I bought it…slowly rehabbing it back to health 🙂 Beautiful space!
Thanks for your positive feedback Diana! It’s definitely a work-in-progress and I didn’t style anything (like a good blogger) but it pretty much looks like this every day. Usually there’s a blanket or two lying around but that’s about all.
I’ve had most of the furniture (including the coffee table) for about 10 years. Really great garage sale scores for most of it. I remember picking up the coffee table at a content sale – in the basement, of course. It’s teak and looks great with my Danish chairs…I just realized I didn’t photograph the other side(s) of the room. To be continued, I guess.
The ficus (fiddleleaf fig – why does it have so many names?) is from Home Depot. I bought it this summer for $30. That was a great day! I’ve had a lot of Twitter communication with Deb from Green Light Shop about how to care for it. I water it religiously every Friday and rotate it every so often. It’s grown since I bought it. Don’t over water yours and be sure it has good light. I can’t remember what Deb recommended…south facing?
Thanks Jordana, I’ll be sure to check Home Depot next summer! I’ve been wanting one for our master bedroom too. If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to move the smaller one to the bedroom and buy a larger one for the living room. $30 is a great price for such a lovely tree! They might be fussy, but I think they’re worth the extra care.
You’re welcome. 🙂 I was at the Burlington Ikea last weekend and they had the trees in a couple of sizes. Their plant selection was MUCH better than the Etobicoke location. I didn’t check the prices though.
Lovely change in your home! Your updates are impressive.
Can’t wait to see the finished product.
congratulations and enjoy your home.
Thanks ZS! The house is bright and airy and I feel really calm here. The light that comes in the living room is so lovely and it makes me feel so happy. Looking forward to your visit…on a warm day!
