I’m excited to welcome my cousin Daniela to the blog today. She has a 4-part gift guide series to share over the next couple of weeks, and I hope you’re eager to see what she has in store for us. Today’s gift guide is all about the babies and toddlers! Take it away, Daniela!

Hey everyone. As an avid shopper and someone who prides herself in finding just the right item for the many children on my shopping list, I am here today sharing with White Cabana readers some of the best items in my opinion for the baby and toddlers on your list this Christmas and yes…they are white or almost all white!

A hot item given the focus we are seeing today on mindfulness, self-care and starting this at a young age is the tee pee. This awesome gift not only looks great in any room but gives the child a place to have some quiet time, read a book or just enjoy some imaginative play.

Their staples may be priced a bit higher than the norm however the wash and wear ability of this high quality clothing is far superior than many brands on the market. The organic cotton feels like butter, and you will find that whoever you buy these clothes for will want to wear them the second they are out of the wash. Again and again! The Friday Five: All About That Swag

Did you follow the One Room Challenge this season? I barely had a chance to follow any of the designer or guest participants’ makeovers, but from what I did see, people really worked hard to transform rooms from drab to fab in just a few weeks.

I did follow The Makerista’s 7-week room transformation of a girl’s bedroom, and it was just one beautiful piece of art/furniture/detail after another. I love the spray-painted beds she used as well as the sweet chest of drawers.

Trivia Thursday: The Wassily Chair

Let’s talk about this chair:

Wassily Chair, Knoll

What we know today as the Wassily Chair was originally named the Model B3 Chair. It was designed in 1925 by Marcel Breuer after he was inspired by the bent handlebar of a bicycle. The chair was later renamed the Wassily Chair after Breuer’s friend, Wassily Kandinsky (yes, the painter).

While the original Model B3 Chair was made from fabric, it was later re-introduced with leather. Knoll Furniture produces the chair today (and many knockoffs are floating around the marketplace, too).

While some look at this chair and can’t imagine that it’s comfortable, I’m here to tell you that it’s an easy one to sink in to!

Book: Cast: Art and Objects

Have I mentioned how much I love receiving books in the mail? Well, I do. As a child and young teen, I was definitely not a bookworm. Books were my sister’s territory, not mine. As I neared adulthood, however, I became more interested in reading, and when I started university, I basically couldn’t stop. I read all sorts of books these days (slowly, though, I assure you), and I’m still one of those people who actually buys books. Softcover, hardcover, new, used, I’ll take ’em.

Recently, I was sent over a copy of the gorgeous book Cast: Art and Objects by Jen Townsend and Ren̩e Zettle-Sterling to review. This book takes us through a historical journey of made objects. We learn about the process Рhistorical and current Рof making ceramic, metal, and glass objects. The photos are beautiful throughout, and the explanations carry through from objects Рhousehold and decorative Рto art to jewelry.

   

I know I haven’t officially started gift guides yet, but if you’re looking to buy something for an artist, historian, or designer, give Cast some consideration!
