I have said for years that one year, I would forego all of my treasured ornaments from my travels in favour of an all-white Christmas tree. Each year, though, I can’t resist decorating my tree with my colourful ornaments. A cowboy boot from Dallas mixed in with a mini Vespa from Rimini with a side of clover-leaf angels from Ireland…how could I keep these sweet ornaments packed away?
That said, there are plenty of other opportunities to decorate with white each year. Wouldn’t a collection of white Christmas trees look festive on a sideboard or a fireplace mantel? Or even spread throughout a house? These 12 Christmas trees are delightful!

Do you decorate with garlands? If so, are your garlands fresh or faux? I don’t seem to have much consistency with garland decoration. Each year brings something different depending on my mood, available time, and greenery selection. This year, we’ve opted for real garland (a mix of cedar and pine) around our front entrance and faux inside. We’ve outfitted both garlands with loads of white lights. Overall, I definitely prefer real greenery for both inside and out.

Have you started to decorate for Christmas? I usually wait until December 1st, but we took advantage of some warmer weather a few weeks ago to decorate the outside of our home. We may get our Christmas tree this weekend, which would be lovely. A month of decorations suits me well.

Here are five festive drinks to enjoy over the holidays.
1.Hot chocolate. Oh, it’s a classic winter drink, isn’t it? My aunt made the best hot chocolate when I was little.
2. Hot toddy. A classic hot toddy combines whiskey, lemon juice, honey, and water. This recipe is an easy one to try. If you’re in the Waterloo region, I recommend the hot toddy at White Rabbit.
3. Mulled wine. This is a favourite at holiday gatherings I host. I generally make it by combining Ikea glogg with red wine. You can also buy this pre-made warm n cozy mulled wine from the LCBO or make your own with this recipe.
4. Apple cider. Hot apple cider is another great drink for a holiday party, especially as a non-alcoholic option. It warms you up, and it’s sweet!
5. Cappuccino. A slow morning during the holidays calls for a foamy cappuccino. Whip up the milk with an inexpensive milk frother and add cinnamon on top. Yum! Some people like to add a shot of Bailey’s or Amaretto to their cappuccinos, but I’m a traditionalist, so I opt out.
I’ve noticed a bit of a design trend in terms of Christmas mantel decor. What, you ask? Asymmetrical garlands! Have a look.

Quebec-based La Grande Gourmandise offers beautiful gift baskets most of which are curated products from Quebec or elsewhere in Canada. With the purchase of any of their gift boxes/baskets a portion is redirected to a fundraising initiative called Youth Fund for School Perseverance.

I stumbled upon Coco Village when I was looking for a low-to-the-floor bed when my first child was transitioning to a big girl bed. If anyone has a child who is about to transition to a big kid bed, why not give it to him or her for Christmas? I highly recommend this one!
Have you ever thought of giving “labels” to someone for Christmas? Mabel’s Labels is a Canadian company that distributes labels. I know labels may be an unusual gift item, but if you have anyone on your list that goes to elementary school or daycare/nursery school or is active in sports/extra curricular activities, you can pick out some fun labels for them. Although most of Roots‘s products are now manufactured outside of Canada their leather line is exclusively handcrafted in Toronto. Snowy weather, the Christmas season, and minimal sunlight makes for the ideal time to bring out the candles.
Wills and Prior generously offered this candle holder from Easy City Candles as a gift with purchase during a holiday shopping event, and I have since added a red taper candle to it. It’s a lovely design.
East City Candles makes beautiful beeswax and soy candles as well as sleek tapers. A scattering of these pinecone candles would make for a beautiful table centrepiece.
I absolutely love minimalist Christmas decor. It doesn’t take much to add some simple winter greenery to vases, candles, and wooden structures.
Maybe next year, I’ll try a minimalist design and only use my white decorations. Maybe.
What do you think about white Christmas trees?
Each year, I consider investing in a white Christmas tree. There are so many in the marketplace at the moment, and a lot of them look so lush. And a white tree would fit perfectly into my home!
But every year, I end up with a live Christmas tree. I’m drawn to the smell, mostly, but I also like their irregular shape. Yes, having a live tree means there’s a lot of regular needle clean up, but what does it matter if I vacuum a little more than usual at this time of year? The live tree makes me happy, and my collection of ornaments stand out against the dark green.
Do you have your Christmas tree up already? I’m hoping to get mine this weekend, and every year, unpacking all of my ornaments is one of my favourite times of the Christmas season. Okay. It wouldn’t be a gift guide if I didn’t include my second favorite beverage-COFFEE! (Water is my first favourite beverage.) Finding a good coffee bean is important to me. It is the fuel for my day, and I love the taste of a well-brewed coffee. Since I have been finding it hard to get to my favorite coffee place after having baby number two, my husband and I started buying Barocco coffee as it is closer to home. If you’ve been a long-time reader of White Cabana, then you’ll likely know some of my favourite brands. Minted, the online marketplace for cards (and now art, fabric, and more!) has been one of my fave brands for quite some time. In fact, it was one of my first brand partnerships way back when White Cabana was just a newbie blog. While I have normally ordered cards and artwork, last year, I took a chance and ordered some fabric for my chaise. The fabric is beautiful. (You can read about my chaise makeover if you’d like.) Since it’s holiday time, it only makes sense that I now turn my attention to Minted’s collection of holiday items. I’ve worked with Minted for the last several years on my holiday card order. My favourite part of the ordering process is browsing through the card designs. This usually takes me a few days because I save a lot of designs in my favourites folder, and then eliminate them as I narrow down my preferences. I definitely put the filters to use to limit the designs by type (e.g., no photo, folded card) and colour (heavy on the white).
Once I’ve chosen my design, the rest of the ordering process takes minutes. Since I have an account, I simply need to write my greeting, review my saved-from-last-year recipient address list, and ensure my return address gets automatically printed on the back. Poof! Done! The order of cards arrives within days. Beautifully and safely packaged, I may add.
This year, I opted for the painted wreath designed by Baumbirdy of Chicago. You can see that the bow from the wreath is also printed on the envelope above the recipient’s address. How pretty!
While the original design had a holiday greeting in the middle of the wreath, I opted to remove it altogether, so that I’d have more white space on my card and the focus would be on the pretty wreath. I put my well wishes on the inside of the folded card. If you’ve ordered Minted cards before, then you’ll know that the text is quite customizable – wording, font, colours, spacing.
The pre-printed recipient and sender addresses option is amazing. I would recommend to pay the extra money for this option because not only is it beautiful, but it saves time. I’m a big fan of this option. Big. Huge. (Insert “Pretty Woman” emphasis.)
Besides these particular holiday cards, Minted’s holiday collection is lovely.

If you’re feeling a touch overwhelmed by the holiday card selection process, why not order more than one design? I haven’t done this myself, but I have considered it. Can I also suggest that you order more cards that you think you need, too? Even though my address list is saved in my Minted account, I always seem to run out of cards. (Hmm…maybe I should spend more time working on adding things up more precisely.)
If you’re not sure how to upload and save recipient addresses, Minted has this guide to holiday cards which provides an easy overview of shapes and styles. I know there are a lot of cards to choose from, and uploading addresses may seem tedious, but once you’ve done it once, it’s done!

What’s your approach to wrapping Christmas presents? Do you plan a theme? Do you use wrapping paper or bags? Is everything colour-coordinated?
As for me, I keep things simple (are you that surprised?). I use one wrapping paper design and just a few bags. I keep ribbons and tags simple, too. My wrapping is basic, and Pinterest certainly makes me look like the worst wrapper ever.

It may come as a surprise to many of you, but when it comes to Christmas, I am quite traditional. I am always eager to get a real tree in my home (usually around December 1st), and I decorate with ornaments I’ve collected from my travels, and a few that I pick up locally each year. Other decorations around my home are from my childhood, belong to my growing collection of reindeer, or are part of my growing Christmas Spode collection (Am I too young to have a Christmas Spode collection? Nah!). You can see some of my decorations on this guest post I wrote for Rox-Anne at Celebrating This Life last year.
All this said, I’ve noticed a lot more white trees and Christmas decor floating around blogs, Instagram pages, Pinterest, and magazine spreads. They’re absolutely beautiful, and I commend those who embrace an all-white Christmas!
