Fashion: Needham Lane’s Sleepwear Part II

Last month, I introduced you to Needham Lane’s sleepwear collection. I’ve been wearing my pj sets ever since they arrived, and they’re doing very well. The fabric is soft, the fit is good, and my sets have survived multiple turns through the washer and dryer. Yes, dryer, too.

I packed them up for my recent trip to Toronto, and my friend Shannon was kind enough to take some photos (she found her inner Nigel Barker-noted fashion photographer). While I know models prepare for photoshoots with the help of a hair, makeup, and styling team, I prepared by waking up, brushing my teeth, and brushing my hair. I opted for a low-fuss, au naturel approach (did I have a choice?).

I actually slept in the Maxwell long sleeve pajama, and I wear this one regularly because I like the long sleeves and pants. I like the black and white checkered pattern, too.

In addition to the checked long sleeve set, Needham Lane sent over the Madison fuchsia short sleeve capri pajama. It’s hard to resist a crisp white set, and I like the punch of fuchsia. The pants have a fuchsia drawstring, but I’d recommend that Needham Lane look into adding fuchsia piping on the pant cuff too.

I couldn’t resist jumping in my PJs (let’s just call this my morning exercise routine)

I also brought along the Pippa aqua kimono robe. The robe is white, but it has aqua piping around the edges and cuffs. If you’re not into white, I’d encourage you to look into all the other colourful robes at Needham Lane. This would make such a nice gift for Mother’s Day or a friend’s birthday. The Pippa might just become my new go-to travel robe. It’s easy to throw into luggage, and it adds an additional layer of comfort when you’re away from home. I basically danced around in it for the photos…

I should let you know that although Needham Lane has a large selection of colourful sleepwear (not everything is black and white). And the last chance section has some incredible deals at the moment (e.g., this cornflower blue pajama is only $20). Shipping to USA is $5 and to Canada is $20. Finally, if you sign up to Needham Lane via email, you’ll get a 20% off coupon code. Bonus!

Many thanks to Needham Lane for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own. Thanks to Shannon Y. for snapping these photos. Location: Omni King Edward hotel, Toronto.

Two for Tuesday: Ruffles

What’s prettier or more feminine than ruffles? Okay, maybe hearts and bows, but ruffles are still at the top of the femininity list, right? They’re great for your wardrobe and your home as you can see by today’s two-for-Tuesday.

Marketplace: Minted’s Fabric Collection

When Minted launched its fabric collection a couple of years ago, I was intrigued. I ended up ordering some sailboat fabric for my parents’ Florida condo, and I was impressed by the quality…and the print, too, of course!

When I added “recover chaise” to my 2016 to do list, I looked into Minted’s fabric collection to see what could work for my chaise and living space. Minted’s search options are great so I easily narrowed down my search (dots, white, black, grey); doing this made my online shopping experience less overwhelming.

When I narrowed things down, I let my Instagram friends weigh in on my two options.

Chaise-Minted-White-Cabana

grey or black – what’s your vote? (fabric info: organic dot by Itsy Belle Studio, $32USD/yard)

What did I end up ordering? The grey!

The fabric arrived a couple of weeks after I placed my order, and it’s beautiful. It looks even better in real life than it does in the photo above! The background is crisper white rather than a shade of grey/cream. The fabric is thick enough to use for my chaise upholstery, and the print is going to modernize my chaise. The grey is going to work well with my existing (rotating) pillow collection, and it’s going to keep my living space bright and airy. Photos will come eventually, not to worry!

Here’s a peek into Minted’s fabric collection. Just about every fabric you see here is available in a variety of colours.

Marketplace: Night Stands

Now that the bed of my dreams is perfectly in place (minus the mattress, of course), I’m on the hunt for a pair of suitable nightstands. My bed is French, so I might opt for something French provincial in style (but plain-ish) to go with it…or something else.

What I’m discovering so far in my search is that (a) I’m very particular (too short, too tall, too skinny, too fat, too traditional, too modern), (b) new nightstands can be super pricey, and (c) finding a pair of vintage nightstands seems practically impossible.

That said, here are some versions that caught my eye and that might go with my bed (but not necessarily my budget…and I’d likely have to repaint them, too).

In the Kitchen: Coffee Maker Review

A little while ago, I shared that I was in the market for a new coffee maker. I was fortunate to work with the fine folks at Bed Bath & Beyond to get the best-for-my-needs coffee machine. Here’s what happened since I shared my coffee maker options with you…

After reading about the machines online, talking to friends about their machines, I headed on over to Waterloo’s Bed Bath & Beyond one evening to make the purchase. I could have easily bought a machine online, but I thought it best to get the full Bed Bath & Beyond experience.

I had intended to buy KitchenAid’s 12-cup coffee maker (mostly because it was white, white, white!), but when I saw the options in store, the Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker caught my eye. I hadn’t seen this one on the Canadian Bed Bath & Beyond site, so it kind of threw my whole decision off. I kept thinking about my sister’s long-lasting Cuisinart machine, and I really liked the buttons and small time display on this machine over the large, round display on the KitchenAid.

KitchenAid-coffee maker-Bed Bath BeyondKitchenAid 12-cup glass carafe coffee maker, $129.99 CAD, Bed Bath & Beyond

Cuisinart-coffee maker-Bed Bath BeyondCuisinart 12-cup programmable coffee maker, $99.99 CAD, Bed Bath & Beyond

While aesthetics are important, I wanted to be sure that the machine was of high quality, too. And this is where the manager of Bed Bath & Beyond came in.

I am still completely impressed by how knowledgeable and matter-of-fact the manager was. (This is unsolicited feedback, by the way. Nobody in the store new that I was going to be writing a review of the coffee maker on my blog.) She took the time to go over pretty much ever feature on each of the two machines so that I could make a decision. She was so patient, and she asked me really good questions about my needs.

She asked me several times if I was sure I wanted a white machine (I told you she didn’t know who she was dealing with!) because the coffee staining on white machines is more noticeable than on black or stainless. This was a good point to consider, but I assured her that I had to have white!

She also pointed out interesting features of the carafe of each of the machines. The KitchenAid’s carafe has a glass spout which could be easily knocked/chipped/broken. Plus, in her opinion, these types tended to dribble. The Cuisinart’s carafe has a plastic spout, which could result in less dribbles.

Together, we explored the various features – programming options, water filters, buttons, etc. We also looked at the price. The KitchenAid came in at $30 more than the Cuisinart, and I really didn’t know why – especially after we compared all of the features. Now, we all know I love KitchenAid (I’ve been extremely happy with my stand mixer), but I wasn’t convinced of its price tag.

So, in the end, I left Bed Bath & Beyond with a shiny new Cuisinart machine, and I’m definitely pleased! I’ve been using it for several weeks, and it’s been working out really well.

White-Cabana-Cuisinart-Coffee Maker-Bed Bath Beyond-3White-Cabana-Cuisinart-Coffee Maker-Bed Bath Beyond-5 White-Cabana-Cuisinart-Coffee Maker-Bed Bath Beyond-2

White-Cabana-Cuisinart-Coffee Maker-Bed Bath Beyond-4

I like that the reusable gold-ish basket, the integrated water filter, the look of the buttons, and the programmable feature. Design-wise, it sits nicely beside my Cuisinart toaster. The coffee brews quickly, and it tastes good, too! The carafe pours well and there’s no dribbling. I can see how the coffee can easily stain the white plastic, so I do take an extra minute to wipe everything down carefully (after I’ve had my first cup of coffee, of course).

Many thanks to Bed Bath & Beyond for sponsoring this post. Thanks to Leah, too! And more thanks to Waterloo’s Bed Bath & Beyond manager who was so patient with me! All opinions are my own.

Beauty: The Clarisonic Mia

Several months ago (or maybe almost a year ago?), I won a Clarisonic Mia during an online Twitter party with #Clarisonic (yes, Twitter parties are a thing in the online world). I was completely excited, because (a) I know next to nothing about beauty, and (b) I had read good things about the Clarisonic.

Mia-White-1

Clarisonic Mia 1 Sonic Cleansing Device

For those of you don’t know, the Clarisonic Mia is a skin cleansing device. It’s sort of like a massive electric toothbrush for your face. Basically.

I’ve casually spoken to a few people about the Clarisonic, but I thought it would be worthwhile to share a quick review here.

Overall, I find it to be very effective. I use it 2 to 3 times a week with either the Clarisonic cleanser or my usual Simple Skincare cleanser. I put a bit of cleanser on the Clarisonic brush head, turn it on, then get to work. It only takes a minute – 20 seconds on each side of the face, 10 seconds on the chin, and 10 seconds on the forehead. After the 1 minute of cleansing (all timed out, by the way, so I don’t have to think about a thing), my face feels so darn fresh. Honestly. It feels fresh and clean and soft.

Clarisonic_White-Cabana-2 Clarisonic_White-Cabana-1

I don’t know if I should be using it more than 3 times a week because sometimes I do wonder if it’s too much brush action for my skin. Does anyone know? If so, tell me your approach!

lamp 2:

Answer: Lamp 1 is Safavieh’s Martin lamp that is available at Target for $185. Lamp 2 is Visual Comfort Studio’s quartz lamp and it’s listed at $1,259.

Marketplace: Coffee Time

How much coffee do you drink per day? I drink it pretty regularly. Two lattes, to be precise. I have one in the morning with breakfast and another mid-morning at work. On some days, I might sneak in an extra espresso, cappuccino, or a drip coffee, but these aren’t part of my regular routine. I enjoy more than just the taste of coffee – I like the whole coffee making and drinking experience. Yes, I know, I’m particular. I’m happy to drink it in various forms, but nothing so jazzy – just coffee and milk. That’s that.

A while back, my ol’ classic Braun carafe broke, and I was bummed. I debated replacing just the carafe, but then I thought that an investment in a new, programmable coffee maker might be a wise move.

When I reached out to Bed Bath & Beyond, the company has generously offered to send me a shiny new machine to solve my lack-of-drip-coffee-machine problem (Yay! Thanks so much BB&B!). Here are the ones that I’m considering.

Coffee-makers-Bed-Bath-Beyond

KitchenAid 12-cup coffee maker, Krups 12-cup Savoy, Cuisinart Brew Central, Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker

Do you have any of them? If so, please share your review!

While all of these coffee makers have received good reviews online, I am mostly drawn to the KitchenAid 12-cup coffee maker and the Cuisinart Brew Central. Here is my thinking – the KitchenAid is white, I’ve had good luck with KitchenAid, and it would match my trusty stand mixer. The Cuisinart Brew Central has received great reviews, and my sister and brother-in-law have had this machine for 10 years (ten!). The stainless Cuisinart would match my stainless fridge.

What do you think I should go for?

Thanks again to Bed Bath & Beyond for sponsoring this post (and my coffee habit)! Thanks, Leah, for your help in arranging this!

Friday Five: Flowers From the Potting Shed

I first met Elaine of Cambridge, Ontario’s From the Potting Shed a couple of months ago at Langdon Hall. I was in love with so many of the arrangements she and her team made for Langdon’s wedding open house, and I wanted to see more. So…I recently headed over to her studio space, and after driving up the long country drive, I found myself in another world. From the Potting Shed took me back to France, in fact! The lavender, the terracotta, the casualness of linen coverings, and beautiful copper pots all reminded me of being in France.

I was warmly welcomed by Elaine and her team (hi team!), and I went exploring around the studio. Considering the recent snowfall and freezing rain we’ve had this week in Waterloo, I thought it was perfectly appropriate to share some floral gorgeousness this Friday. Shall I fill you in on five things that I learned about From the Potting Studio?

1. I loved all the flowering trees that Elaine had scattered throughout the studio.

2. The dining space in the studio included one of Elaine’s signature flower garlands (or trains!) across the fireplace mantle. So beautiful! White-Cabana-From-The-Potting-Shed-5

3. Elaine does quite a bit of work with lavender. From sachets to wreaths to bouquets, if you’re looking for lavender, this is the place to come!White-Cabana-From-The-Potting-Shed-3

White-Cabana-From-The-Potting-Shed-10

4. From the Potting Shed offers many floral design workshops through its School of Flowers certificate program (I’m attending one in May, so I’ll be sure to report back!). These workshops are ideal for anyone who wants to learn more about floral design, but it would also be a fun activity for mother’s day  or a celebration with bridesmaids.

5. In addition to the School of Flowers, Elaine and her team host a set of cool events throughout the year. I’ve got my eye on the Champagne Garden Party in June!White-Cabana-From-The-Potting-Shed-4 White-Cabana-From-The-Potting-Shed-6

If you’re planning your upcoming wedding and you’re still looking for a florist, I would encourage you to meet with Elaine at her next Wedding Open House (March 19-20) and learn more about her wedding services.

For everyone else who is not getting married, but who wants to be surrounded by beauty, visit From the Potting Shed.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Thanks again, Elaine, for being such a gracious host! Thanks also to Simon, Greg, and the floral team for adding to the fun of the afternoon!

Marketplace: Favourite Gifts for Babies and Toddlers

Between my own nephews and nieces and all of my friends’ babies, I have bought so many baby gifts over the last decade or so. Like many areas of my life, I approach baby gift buying quite simply. When the babies started coming, I thought carefully about what my favourite items were, and then I basically resorted to buying them in bulk. Honestly. Today I’m sharing with you some of my signature baby gift items; they seem to be well-received by babies and parents alike.

Jellycat stuffed animals are the softest, and the faces are super sweet. I tend to buy a lamb or a bunny, but lately I’ve picked up the giraffe, and I just love it. There are so many good chewing options for babies…ribbons, tails, arms…awesome! I’ve got my eye on the unicorn and owl, too. I do tend to stay away from the bear…it’s just a bit too classic for my taste.

I always buy books for babies and kids. Reading is one of the single most important things that people can do for and with kids, in my opinion, and I do my part to encourage it! My all-time favourite book for babies/toddlers/kids is Each Peach Pear Plum. This was my favourite book as a young kid, and it gives the reader so much to look at and learn!

0670287059

Each Peach Pear Plum by Allan Ahlberg and Janet Ahlberg

I also buy just about any Dr. Seuss book, but Green Eggs and Ham remains my all-time favourite.

For one-year olds, I often buy One by Kathryn Otoshi. It’s a beautiful book with sweet, simple watercolour artwork.

Now that my friends’ babies are turning two, I’ve started buying Two by Kathryn Otoshi in bulk. Why ruin a good thing, right? 9780972394666_IL_2_dfc8f

Two by Kathryn Otoshi

I also find Press Here by Herve Tullet to be an exceptionally fun book and any kid that I have given it to seems to have really enjoyed it (two others in the collection are Mix it Up! and Let’s Play). For Christmas, I sent my nephews and niece a bunch of Laura Ljungkivst’s Follow the Line books, and they seem to have liked them quite a bit. I’m also always on the lookout for Barbapapa books (in French, English, or Italian) for my nephews and niece; I love the creativity of these stories.

Do you have signature gifts for babies, toddlers, kids, or others? Do tell!

Update:

Two for Tuesday: Polka Dot Sheets

Okay. Okay. So we all know by now that I’ve declared 2016 as The Year of My Bed, right? I can’t help but post bed-related items since it’s on my mind a lot. Today, I’m bringing you two polka dot duvet sets…a low and a high!

Marketplace: In the Kitchen with Kate Spade

In the fall, I brought you news from High Point Market of Kate Spade’s new line of furniture and home accessories. While I don’t particularly love the furniture as much as a lot of other people do, there are a select few items that I do really like (e.g., pom pom throw, Afton coffee table, many rugs), but, overall, it’s too much “bow” for me to commit to.

Its kitchen collection, however, is right up my black and white alley. In keeping with true Kate Spade style, it’s peppy and pretty and polka dotted! Oh, and of course there are plenty of bows thrown into the mix, too. Obviously. This is Kate Spade after all!

Design: The Buffalo Check Trend

What’s black and white and square all over? Buffalo check, of course! While the pattern does come in just about every colour, I’m obviously most drawn to the black/white/grey versions.

It seems like buffalo check just emerged on the design scene within days. Seemingly suddenly, I’m seeing this pattern on everything from chairs to table cloths to settees to clothing.

Buffalo check works with a lot of existing styles – traditional, modern, country, shabby chic – as you’ll see in the interiors below.

Marketplace: St. Genève Bedding

When I stayed at Langdon Hall last month, I absolutely fell in love with the feather topper on the bed. As soon as I lay down on that bed, I felt like I was on a cloud. It was an incredible sleeping experience that I had never had. Now I want it again.

I did a bit of searching (not that hard because Langdon Hall’s site is full of info), and I learned that the feather toppers are made by St. Genève – just for Langdon Hall, I might add! With a click and a web-hop away, I landed at St. Genève, and I read just about everything about the products.

As you may recall, I have declared 2016 The Year of My Bed (or The Bed…I keep switching). My bedroom needs a revamp, and I’d really like to invest in the top of whatever I possibly can (luxurious but affordable is what I’m going with).

As of now, I don’t have a new bed or a new mattress or new linens or even a decision about whether to invest in a queen or a king, but one thing I do know – and I’m making room in my budget for – is that I’m certain a feather topper is in my bedroom makeover future. Heavenly, I tell ya, heavenly!

Since I’ve had experience sleeping on St. Genève’s feather topper, I’m just about certain that I’ll be buying one of these.

Deckbette feather mattress topperDeckbette mattress topper

St. Genève feather toppers have 100% cotton twill shells and are down in baffled ladder design with a box edge. Since the toppers cannot be washed or dry-cleaned, a cover should be used. This can be removed for laundering.

Beyond the toppers, I discovered, the company makes gorgeous white bed linens. This is luxury, dear readers! Fabric is woven in Italy, Germany, and elsewhere, and there is so much softness in the designs. In addition to the white-on-white versions below, the linen collection includes some colourful designs, too.

In addition to the feather top and the bed linens, St. Genève also manufactures high-end  duvets and pillows.

I think that if you’re aiming for a luxurious bed, St. Genève is a place to visit. Their collections are in Canada, USA, and Asia (locations here). The company  is a leader in high quality and guarantees its products. You can learn all about the different types of down here.

I’ll be sure to let you know what I think about my topper choice once I’ve made it….I have 11 more months to get my bedroom makeover sorted out!

Marketplace: Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

This Valentine’s Day, I’m thinking hearts, hearts, and more hearts are the way to go. I’ve never been a major Valentine’s Day fan as I think love – and hearts – should be spread around generously throughout the year, so considering this, I think it’s as good a time as any to share some lovely items here (yes, even though we haven’t even yet entered February).

The Friday Five: Bird Feeders at Amara

A few years ago, I wrote a post about modern bird feeders. This post has caught the attention of several readers, but most recently, Amara contacted me with info about their current bird feeder stock. I was surprised to see so many modern feeders in one place. Since I’m already itching for spring to arrive, it seems like a post about bird feeders is highly appropriate.

I’ll start with this bird feeder that Amara kindly sent me (see it on Instagram). Since I shared it on Instgram, I picked up bird seed (I can’t even remember what kind), and I hung it up on a tree in my backyard. The lady who helped me buy the bird seed said it would take a few days for birds to realize it’s there. While I haven’t seen so many birds flock to it quite yet, I’m hopeful they will. How could they not? Look how pretty it is!

garden-trading-bird-nut-feeder-1-jpgGarden Trading Bird Feeder, $28

I absolutely love the design of this second feeder. Talk about modern! I’m not quite sure where birds perch to eat the seed, but I love the donut shape, and the hook and cord seem very strudy.

Eva-Solo-bird-feeder-Amara

Eva Solo Bird Feeder, $59 (on sale)

This bird feeder is by the same brand as the previous one, but its design is quite different. It’s a mini feeder with a larger hole. I do like the simplicity of this design.

mini-bird-feeders Eva Solo mini bird feeder, $63

The next two bird feeders are by the same manufacturer, but they’re different shapes. I like the mix of white and wood on these classic feeders. There’s not much room for more than one bird though, is there?

haven-white-birdhouse-24x20cmD&M Haven White Bird House, $92

haven-white-birdhouse-17x15cmD&M Have White Bird House, $87

As I learned, Amara’s curation is amazing. The company carries designers such as Alessi (my fave!), Fornasetti, Jonathan Adler, and Orla Kiely. It ships world wide, and you can choose your preferred currency option as you shop online. I’ve listed the above items with the Canadian prices, and delivery is free to Canada for orders above $200.

Thanks again to Amara for sending along the feeder! I hope it makes the birds happy! All opinions are my own.

Marketplace: I’m Curious about S’well Water Bottles

So…can anyone tell me why a S’well water bottle costs nearly $50?

Swell Water Bottles-whiteimages via S’well and Chapters Indigo

So many of the university students I see every day are toting one of these bottles. I don’t get it. The website claims that the bottle keeps drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never needed to keep my water cold for 24 hours…I usually need to refill my water after an hour or two. And hot? I’m not really a fan of 12-hour old coffee.

Maybe I just don’t have the need for a high-end water bottle because I was never a plastic-bottle water drinker, and there are perfectly good drinking fountains at work where I can fill up my glass.

What do you think? Do you own one? What do you think of it? Do tell!

The Friday Five: Kitchen Essentials

I know many of us just finished a couple of weeks of holiday feasting, but I can’t help but continue to talk about food and entertaining. This year, I really want to try to declutter and get rid of items that I no longer regularly use. In so doing, I’m also going to be paying close attention to what I do use.

In the kitchen, for example, these five items get quite a bit of use at my house, and they’re here to stay.

I use my KitchenAid mixer on a weekly basis to make bread, pizza dough, pasta, or desserts. It was a great investment, and I keep it on my counter for easy access.

kitchen-aid mixerKitchenAid stand mixer

I use cloth napkins at my place, and I’m always looking for new sets to replace old ones. Most of mine are colourful (big surprise), but I’ll be looking to add beautiful white sets this year. They’re just so crisp and lovely.

napkinslinen napkins

I recently purchased pie beads (for Lucy Waverman’s saffron chocolate tart), and they definitely kept my tart crust in top form. I look forward to baking up some more tarts and pies this year.

pie beadspie chain

I use trays quite regularly to carry food from one room to another while I’m hosting, or simply to carry my tea and treats to the living room while I veg out. Trays come in very handy during the warmer months, too, when I’m bringing things to and from the barbeque.

Finally, I have a stack of ramekins in my cupboard that I use for just about everything – from serving olives, nuts, or candy to making baked eggs.

Fashion: My L.L.Bean Wellie Review

Last month, I reached out to American classic L.L.Bean to inquire about their rain boot collection, and I’m grateful to L.L.Bean for sending me a pair of their tall black wellies and wellie warmers. When I prepared this style post, I hadn’t yet worn my wellies too much, so I couldn’t do a full review. Now, though, since the arrival of quite a bit of rain and slush, I have plenty more to say! Care to read on?

As I mentioned in my last post, I was completely impressed with L.L.Bean’s social media team, PR pro, and online chat personnel. I received excellent and speedy customer service, and my initial reactions were positive. I do already own an L.L.Bean personalized duffle bag, and it has passed many tests over the years, so I had high hopes for the boots. Thankfully, things are working out very well!

White-Cabana-Wellie_rain Boots_LLBean-2Here I am on one grey rainy December day wearing my L.L. Bean wellies. I paired them with leather-detailed pants, layered black tops, and a classic Longchamp bag.

The boots fit my foot perfectly, and they’re very comfortable for walking around. I do walk a lot (to work, to the grocery store, to the library, to cafés, etc.), so I’m not lying when I tell you that they’re comfortable for walking (as much as walking in the rain is comfortable – ha!).

White-Cabana-Wellie_rain Boots_LLBean-1I still feel put together even thought I’m wearing rain boots.

When I originally placed my order, I wasn’t 100% certain that the boot would fit comfortably over my calf (I do have issues with this with some companies). After asking the online chat person about the sizing, I felt more confident. The boots do fit over my calf easily – even with the wellie sock – and the elastic feature on the back increase the comfort level. The boots sort of just move with me as I walk if that makes any sense. The fit is true to size. I’m normally a size 8, and I ordered size 8, and they even fit well when I wear  the wellie sock.

White-Cabana-LLBean_2back elastic feature

There are loops at the top of either side of the boot, and I hang on to these as I pull the boots on. Easy.

White-Cabana-LLBean_1

loop detail

Another feature I surprisingly like is the buckle detail across the top/side of the foot part of the boot. These make the boots feel unique, substantial, and a bit rock-and-roll.

White-Cabana-LLBean_3the buckle

The sole is thick and sturdy, and I feel very stable as I walk through puddles or slush (you can see evidence of those puddles right there on my boots).

Finally, the boots come in at a fair price point considering the rain boot market. The boots are $89US, and the wellie warmer socks are $24.95. L.L.Bean offers free shipping and an unbeatable guarantee, which are bonuses in my mind.

So, as you can gather, I have only positive things to report about my new wellies. They get my stamp of approval!

White-Cabana-Wellie_rain Boots_LLBean-3Let’s all take another moment to stare at the boots, shall we?

Many thanks to Rox-Anne for taking these photos during one random post-café-meeting photo shoot! Boot photos by me.

Design: Jaipur Rugs at HPMKT

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, two showrooms really stood out to me during my first visit to High Point: Visual Comfort & Co. and Jaipur. I already shared my experience at Visual Comfort and my meeting with Aerin Lauder. Today, I’m bringing you news from Jaipur Rugs.

One of the reasons that we put Jaipur on our must-see list was because of its newly released Kate Spade collection of rugs, throws, and pillows. What I wasn’t expecting was to be impressed by everything beyond the Kate Spade items. I was! It was an absolutely beautiful showroom, and there were so many items I wanted to lug home! Here, have a look:

20 Below: Ikea’s Soft Toys

Over the years, I’ve bought several Ikea toys for my nephews and niece. They make the kids happy because they’re fun, and they make me happy because of their design details. Their train sets, play kitchen sets, and soft toys are easy-to-give gifts because they’re also affordable (well, it is Ikea after all!).

Ikea’s newest soft toy collection is rather interesting because the toys were produced from kids’ drawings.

First, have a look at the black and white skunk drawing:

Design: Aerin Lauder & Visual Comfort at HPMKT

Okay, okay, so today’s title doesn’t really leave you guessing about my design-star-struck moment, does it? Yes, it’s true, I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Aerin Lauder at the Visual Comfort & Co. showroom at High Point Market just a couple of weeks ago.

It was a complete treat to meet Aerin and to take photos of her with her gorgeous lighting designs serving as the backdrop.

Her collection of varied pieces is really quite stunning. I love the sleekness of the Clemente line, the sparkle in the Bonnington and Lynn pieces, and the texture on the Hampton lights. I feel like there is something for everyone in this collection (and I’m not just saying that because I met Aerin and her PR team!).

Design: Visual Comfort Lighting at HPMKT

I’m back today with another update from my first High Point Market experience. I already shared my overall impression of HPMKT and my prediction of trends, but today I’m sharing a close-up look at one company in particular that really came to impress!

As soon as I stepped into the Visual Comfort & Co. showroom, I was pretty much speechless. The staff was extremely welcoming and informative, and I instantly learned so much about Visual Comfort’s place in the lighting industry and its many designer partnerships. Based in Houston, Texas, Visual Comfort manufactures lighting for the likes of Thomas O’Brien, Kelly Wearstler, Aerin Lauder, Alexa Hampton, and Suzanne Kasler (impressive list, right? See the full list of designers here.).

Art: A Welcoming Pineapple

As many of you know, the pineapple is a symbol of warmth and hospitality. So when my sister and I spotted Joni Tyrrell’s Pining for Pineapple in Minted’s art shop a couple of months ago, we thought it would be a perfect addition to her family’s new home.

It has finally been placed on the wall near the entrance, and it certainly offers visitors an inviting welcome.

Holiday: Getting Ready for Christmas with Minted

I know, I know, we haven’t even reached Halloween, and I’m already talking about Christmas! I realize that this is too early for some of you, and honestly, it’s a touch too early for me, too.

But…

When it comes to Christmas/holiday/New Year’s cards, it’s a good idea to plan ahead. It takes time to choose, write, and address cards, so why not start early? Who’s with me? I’ve just placed my order through Minted (this seems to have become my new holiday tradition…and it’s a good one if you ask me!), and the collection this year is a good one.

This year, Minted artists seem to be offering quite a few watercolour-inspired designs in mint and pale pink. Traditional green and red cards are plentiful, too, as are beautiful golden ones. And, as always, there are several black and white designs that catch the attention of people like me.

I’ve enjoyed watching this company expand its services, and its growing community of artists continues to impress me. I’m thrilled with my card selection this year, and I know you will be too if you head on over to Minted to place your order!

Halloween: Collection of Owls

While I admit that Halloween doesn’t top my favourite holiday list, I do like particular aspects of it. It’s common to see more wise ol’ owls in homes at this time of year, but their popularity definitely extends beyond October 31st.
