White Out

White Out

White Cabana readers continue to see white in all sorts of spaces and places. Here’s 2013’s first installment of the White Out series.

White Out: Around the World

Our White Out series continues today with a look at what white goodness our readers have spotted from around the world.

In New York City, Jeff sculpted a family of simple white mushrooms.

In London, Lindsay snapped a photo of The White Company store (I’ll take one of everything please!).

In Toronto Sarah recently bought a couple of Le Creuset trivets that have such a pretty design. It looks like cast iron to me but this French Trivet is actually silicone.

And to round of today’s series, Daniela snapped a photo of this fountain sculpture during her visit of Nuit Blanche in Toronto earlier this fall. The sculpture, titled Viva La Dada, Baby!, is a tribute to Marcel Duchamp created by Jolie Fejer and Viliam Hrubovcak. It was part of the Dada Reboot! exhibit curated by Thom Sokoloski. Duchamp’s now-famous (in 1917 it was quite controversial) urinal, the Fountain is considered by some as one of the most important works of 20th century art.

I continue to be impressed by all the white our readers are finding in their surroundings. Please continue to send your submissions for White Out to me at whitecabana [at] gmail [dot] com.

White Out: Summer Sightings

For the third installment in our White Out series (first, second), I’m sharing two photos that Susan sent me from her summer travels to Paris and the UK. First up is the very white window display spotted at a Kenzo shop in Paris.

And the second photo definitely put a smile on my face. I need to find my way to this place one day (or at least make a similar sign for my own home!).

Thanks for sending these photos my way Susan. I’m happy (and proud) that you spotted some white during your travels.

See something fabulously white? Take a photo and submit it to me at whitecabana [at] gmail [dot] com.

White Out: In Readers' Closets

Welcome to the second installment of the new series, White Out. This series gives readers the opportunity to showcase their white loves. This month I received a few photos of white clothing from our readers (okay, okay, they’re also my friends). While some shy away from wearing white because they fear accidental spills and such, I embrace wearing white (you’ll often see me in a white shirt) and it seems our readers do too.

(I love that it’s also on a white hanger and on a white door!)

Vanessa sent me this photo as a sort of thank you card. It made me laugh out loud. I wonder – what exactly would you pair these socks with? I can’t say that I’m actually going to run out and buy a pair.

Thanks to Emily, Sarah and Vanessa for sending in these photos!

Note: If you would like to take part in the White Out series here on the blog then please submit your photos of design in white to me at whitecabana [at] gmail [dot] com. Thanks! -Jordana

New Series: White Out

I’m happy to announce that we are starting a new series on the blog today! White Out will be a monthly (for now) post featuring the work and photos by our readers. If you see something white that catches your eye – cool architecture, innovative product, great design in any form – snap a photo and send it our way. Each month we will post our favourite images.

So – let’s kick off the series with a couple of photos that have landed in my email inbox and Twitter feed over the last few weeks. While the subject matter of the photos is so completely different, I love that they have one thing in common – repetition. The repetitive, but very different, forms in each of these photos have definitely caught my eye.

I am so happy when someone sees white and thinks of White Cabana! Thank you to our first couple of readers for sharing your photos.

Note: You can send your photos of delights in white to me at whitecabana (at) gmail (dot) com.
