The Friday Five: Marimekko for Target

Why oh why did Target have to fail in Canada? Grr…not good. I would have loved to have seen the Marimekko for Target collection in person! For now, though, I have to be satisfied with checking out the collection online.

The Friday Five: 5 Ways to Style Black Jeans

I wear a lot of black. As in, I wear black just about every single day. And on the days that I don’t wear black, I wear white. Black and white. White and black. This is my basic uniform. While some of you colour-loving readers might think I live a boring fashion life, I would completely disagree. I jazz things up with textures, layers, and accessories.

You know I’ve been working with L.L.Bean this year, and I was thrilled to try out their signature skinny jeans. After I received them, I wore them for three days straight, which basically sums up how I feel about them. I love them. They sit a little higher on the waist, they have plenty of stretch (but do not stretch out), they have a slim leg, and the back pockets are perfectly placed. They have washed well so far (I hang them to dry), and they keep their shape. Needless to say, I have no complaints at all. If you’re in between sizes according to the L.L.Bean sizing chart, I would go for the larger size as these are a skinny fit, and you don’t want them to be totally uncomfortably tight.

Considering how often I wear black jeans (and I imagine you might, too), I thought I’d share five ways to style a sharp pair of black jeans.

First: The Classics: black jeans paired with a classic white shirt

Second: Casual Confidence: black jeans paired with classic Converse and a hoodie

Have a great weekend, everyone!

*I took my coat off for 1 minute for this jump (brrr!). Thanks for the snapping the jumping photo, SY!
Thanks again, L.L.Bean, for sending over the signature skinny jeans. Read my previous L.L.Bean posts.
All opinions are my own.

Design: Lost in Cube Land

Make note, dear readers, we are going to be seeing more cubes in interiors this year. The cube fascination has already begun popping up in tile work, art work, wallpapers, and sculptures. The repeated pattern of 3D cubes in 2D work has a mesmerizing effect, and it has been created in just about every colour combination.

I painted a piece of cube art about a decade ago (in shades of green if you can believe it), and it still has a safe spot in my office. These days, however, I like the more muted and tone-on-tone versions using shades of grey, white, black, and gold. The pattern can be full of contrast or a gentle progression between shapes.

While flooring may be a complete investment of the cube trend (I don’t think it’s actually a trend. I think it’s a very classic design, but patterned floors, in general, are very on trend for 2016), an easier way to go would be via cushions and tea towels.

Fashion: Clare Distenfeld’s Fivestory in Manhattan

I read about luxury boutique Fivestory in Elle Decor‘s October issue, and I was enticed to browse through its online collection. Fivestory, owned by Clare Distenfeld, is located on Manhattan’s upper east side and it caters to those looking for diverse high-end  brands including Roland Mouret, Alexander Wang, Nicholas Kirkwood, and Rosie Assoulin.

Before I share some of the shop’s collection, let’s just have a quick look at the sleek interior of the 5-story (get it?) townhouse.
